Good to see you here but I miss your avatar from the old forum. If you click on Profile - Edit Profile, you can add it.

I am sure we will get used to searching through zillions of files, or one can ask an expert (quicker) :-))

I downloaded the gzip Ken made using the backup tool. And Ken answered my question here of whether or not he used the Full backup. It was quite a small backup even having been zipped. Only about 500MB unzipped. This package contains only pure posts data or some sort of database tables?

Yes, it was only the database. In this case phpbb "Full" backup refers only to the database.

There is a more recent version on the Wayback machine, done in January 2024.
It's slow....but it's there.

Yes, it was only the database. In this case phpbb "Full" backup refers only to the database. To clarify, it was "only" the database, but the database includes the posts. As I said, there are other hoops you have to jump through to make the data in the database accessible to everyone, but at least the information isn't lost. Glad to hear the backup was successful.

Yes -- at least it isn't lost. Thanks for those links. It's a little slow but not as slow as it seemed to be when I accessed it before, possibly using the older machine. And yes I can access individual posts. But how do do a search in it? There is no longer a search box at the top of the pages as there used to be when the forums were actually running. So I am interested in how you got it to find and take you to Backwards Compatibility 2023U and X4. When I actually go to that page, the Search box is there but missing from the main Index and PSP/VS Forums pages... And when I put in a specific search request there I get an Archive msg telling me the Wayback Machine has not archived that URL. What is even more curious is that I put in the Search box "PSP 2023 Slow UI" which appears a little down the list of threads on the PSP forum. As I say, I get that error msg from the Search box. But when I go to that thread in the forum index, that thread opens properly and shows me what is there.

But when I go to that thread in the forum index, that thread opens properly and shows me what is there. Its slow because that link is for January which only had saved a few pages. Try using the link to Feb 9th for the PSP forums: web.archive.org/web/20240209044445/https://forum.corel.com/viewforum.php?f=56Link for entire forum, at the old Board index: web.archive.org/web/20240209054356/https://forum.corel.com/index.phpThe loooong explanation: Clicking a January link for a topic results in archive.org searching all pages for the closest matching link. That creates a big part of the delay, also by delays caused when archive.org servers experience a lot of people accessing at same time. Eventually archive finds them for Feb 9 which appears to be the first and certainly is the last time the entire forum was captured all at once. Yes some topics do have an older copy often from manual save requests. But many topics weren't previously captured because archive.org would only capture a few pages deep starting from any domains index page which goes something like this: starts at "Board index", then subforms (ie Popular Products), then sub-subforms (ie Paint Shop Pro) looks like it'd usually stop here, leaving individual topics unarchived until Feb 9th. PS: That's my understanding from what I've gathered by reading reddit posts by the archive.org volunteers who know how to use that archive bot.

Thanks enormously for that. Everything is there including the Search window. I have bookmarked the main Index page so will now have ready access to it. I assume there won't be any update to 12 February which was the actual day the forums closed. But 9 February is fine in any case as there was very little by way of questions after that, and only two new users registering. And I quickly sent them emails about this new forum!

I dug around archives and the few pages I manually requested that weekend were archived after feb 9th. It can take search engines time to stop showing links to forum topics. But now those forum topics just get redirected to corel's support page.
So that's a problem because... archive.org might try crawling those topics but get redirected to corel's support page and then archive that too.

Hey everybody,
I just decided to check the forum after a very long time, only to find out that it has been replaced by this new one, containing none of the old content. It's a little sad, since there were tons of info & resources accumulated through the years in the old forum. Yeah, web-archive and similar sites may come to the rescue if need be, but using those sites is a real pain. Well something is better than nothing I guess.
I was wondering how come the old database was not migrated to this new forum?
PS. On a side note, all links shown in this new forum get blocked by my "uBlock Origin" protection, because they are all get redirected through viglink.com, which is an advertising network. Is that by choice by Allude or is it some default ProBoards option that the admins can disable?

This Board has nothing to do with Alludo except that we cover products which are still made by Alludo. Kathy_9, Trevor Andrew and myself were also Site Admins on the old forum. However, we were not Alludo employees but users like yourself who volunteered their time to participate in the forums. Then early this year Alludo announced pretty much out of the blue that they intended to close the old forums in early February for what they claimed to be monetary reasons. So Trevor, Kathy and I decided to set up this new forum to take its place. We had to hurry and ProBoards provides an attractive low cost alternative. We have asked Alludo to include a reference to our new forum on their websites, and also asked about allowing us access to the old database outside the context of the Web Archive. But we haven't yet received a response to those requests.

I see, thank you very much for the detailed reply Ken!
So link redirections through viglink.com is a forced thing by ProBoards, or a choice in an effort to reduce the forum cost?

ProBoards, as far as we are aware, offer hosting services for our (and many other) forums free of charge. But of course they have to make money and the way they do that is to advertise on the forums. And they obviously decided to use viglink.com as their means to that end. ProBoards then charge fees to limit or cut out advertising. We have taken them up this offer by paying their fee, and as a result there has not been any advertising on our forum.
It would thus be interesting to know if your ad blocker uBlock Origin gives you any message when it blocks contact with the forum or points to specific instances of advertising which we do not see. Can we also assume you have to turn off uBlock in order to make contact with us, as you have obviously done, or do you have another means of getting around the block? As will be relatively obvious, you are the first person to raise this issue with us.

No, no, it is not the forum that is blocked. It is when trying to follow any links found inside posts. For example, trying to follow a webarchive link posted on the 1st page of this thread triggers uBlock Origin, resulting to something like this: gyazo.com/cba36bd8c1e2fa0533af593239b90e03I can still tell it to ignore the warning and go ahead though. Btw, I did not check links that point within the forum itself.
