Troubles with VS 26.1.0.268 :(

Hello! It's great that there's a new VideoStudio forum here! ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) I've been having issues with playback and processing of videos in VideoStudio since the update to version 26.1.0.268 about a week ago. Some of my videos play correctly and smoothly (videos from my GoPro or smartphone), while others stutter (for example, those from my DSLR, including most of VideoStudio's sample videos like Sample_lake.mp4). Apparently, someone else in the old VideoStudio forum has already described similar issues. The stuttering videos appear as if the frame rate is incorrectly set, although that's not the case. When I go through the clips frame by frame, every three to four frames, the previous frame is repeated. It doesn't seem to be specific to a particular file type. Most video clips are MP4, some are MOV, all encoded with H.264. The stuttering occurs regardless of the frame rate, both with videos at 25 fps and those at 29.97 or 30 fps – with the respective project settings, of course. The issue persists on different computers as well (Lenovo AIO and Surface Pro 9). Both are running Windows 11 with the latest updates. Outside of VideoStudio, all videos play normally, for example in VLC – so it's just a VideoStudio-specific problem. As I mentioned, the problem did not exist before the VideoStudio update. I have already contacted Corel support in the meantime, but have not received a response yet. Has anyone else experienced this problem, or do you have any ideas on what to do? I've been using VideoStudio for a long time and consider myself familiar with it. Therefore, I'm currently quite puzzled. Looking forward to your responses.

You mention that you navigate frame by frame with some frames being duplicated. Video Studio will do this where the video and project timeliness use a different frame rate.
If the project is set to ntsc at 29.97 fps and a Pal video at 25fps is used then every 5th frame will be duplicated. Using 29.97 on a pal 25fps timeliness will remove frames.
I realise you may have done this but please make sure that your project properties do match the video properties. Using a small app called Media Info will give full details of your video file, take note of the frame rates. Then check the programs properties, Settings – Project Properties.
Ok There was a problem with the program retaining the Pal option after installation, so please go to Preferences (F6), view the TV Standards to make sure they are correct for you.

Thank you for your response, Trevor!
Of course, I always choose the appropriate timeline frame rate and do not mix videos with different frame rates.
To illustrate it again: I take "Sample_Lake.mp4", one of the two sample clips that VideoStudio comes with. Its properties are H.264 High Profile Video, MP4, 30 fps. I place this clip in the timeline, which is also set to 30 fps. I play it, and it doesn't play smoothly. I go frame by frame: Frame 1 and 2 are the same, Frame 3 continues, Frame 4 is the same again, Frame 5 continues, Frame 6 continues, Frame 7 is the same, and so on. The same happens when I simply play the video as a clip, regardless of the timeline.
Another example: I started a video project after Christmas, so before the update. It includes MP4 files from my GoPro and MOV files from my DSLR, all at 25 fps and H.264. Before the update, there were no problems; all videos played normally. Since the update, the described problem occurs with the videos from the DSLR. At first, I thought it might be a problem with MOV files. So, I converted them to MP4 using Adobe Media Encoder, and they worked correctly again. Later, I noticed that the stuttering not only occurs with the MOVs from my DSLR but also with other clips, such as a TV recording, also MP4 H.264 25 fps.
The stuttering of the clips is not tied to a specific file type, encoding, or frame rate. Unfortunately, I don't know what the issue is. I only know it has only been happening since the update. Also, it's unlikely to be a problem with my computer (Lenovo AIO) because I have the same issue on my Surface Pro 9.
Is everything working normally for you? How about the sample clip "Sample_Lake.mp4"? (Perhaps not the most beautiful example, but a good comparison object.)

I experience the same issue. I still have videostudio 2019 in my computer and I don’t have the issue with that software. I contacted customer service and they escalated the ticket as the technician couldn’t figure out what was happening.

Hi grupsua Yes I am seeing problems with the Sample_Lake.mp4 video
Playing at first seems ok, but look closely and the water glistening just does not look right. Nudge through the frames, I hit the “F” key and 2 frames move the third press is static, throughout the video.
Normally I use MTS pal 25fps / 50P there is no problems, 25 and 50fps play ok without the static frame. Using my own MP4 1920 x 1080 x 50P and I have the same problem.
Tested a Mov from the overlay library as ok
I can nudge the video from the library and still a problem, that sort of rules out the timelines. Changing the programs TV system from Pal to Ntsc has no effect on this. Deselected Hardware acceleration, still a problem
As “moltllest” you should also report to Customer Support, I will be doing the same. Thanks for your input here moltllest

Hi Trevor, hi moltlest, thanks to both of you for your feedback! I also contacted Customer Support on Monday – unfortunately, I haven't received a response to my ticket yet. I will be back here if there are any news. Hope they are already working on the issue. ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)

Good evening,
Today, I received a response from support – unfortunately, after four days, it was quite disappointing. For now, there were only a few simple follow-up questions, no solutions yet. I have described the problem again in great detail, and I hope that support will now engage more intensively with it.
Any news from your end?

I have a similar problem since the update when using videos from my iPhone and it is choppy, before the update, everything was fine. When I use videos from my GoPro, Eken and Canon cameras, it is silky smooth. The fps of my iPhone is the same as my other cameras and the same that I use in my projects. I would like to know if I can go back to the old version so I would not have this problem.

Using the Sample Lake video, I have the same issue with VS2022 as well as VS2023 but VS2021 plays through the frames correctly, so a coding issue !!!

Thanks Robert, I did not realise 2022 had a simular problem, I will check that out. Marc J Unfortunatley Corel embedded the update to the installing files, re-installing will give us the updated version. So no I do not know of a way to install 2023 without the patch.

Hi Robert I do not have a problem using 2022, I had to install to test, did not install the Bonus features.
2023 I am also experiencing slow responce after Inserting/ drag and drop video clips to the timeline. Very slow, upto 20 seconds to display a 1 minute clip. Compared to 2022, is almost instant.

Trevor, I have no issue with dragging HEVC UHD video clips (over 2 mins.) drops and displays instantly.
Opened VS2022 this morning, placed Sample Lake in timeline and played through the frames correctly, removed sample from timeline, then dragged sample back onto timeline, now a few frames are static, but not enough to cause any real concern, removed sample from timeline, then dragged back onto timeline again, this time I again see the issue as previously reported. So once again removed sample clip from timeline, then dragged it back onto timeline clip now plays frames correctly, go figure !!!

Sorry to come in so late on this one, but I have just been trying to replicate the problem in VS2023 -- and I can't. Using the Sample_lake clip or other H.264 clips, all play absolutely normally either at normal speed, or when, like Trevor, I nudged through the clips using the F key. No static frames at all. I would insert the clip, play it (full and continuous movement) then take the clip out of the timeline; reinsert it, play it again and still it remained fine. Tried it on several different H.264 clips, both from my camera or from others, plus the sample clip, and had no trouble with any of them.
