For a while now, my PSPX2 and PSPX5 will not open unless I go to my Task Manager and 'End task' for them. I read this tip in a post in the now-closed Corel forum that I could do that because there was a window that needed to be closed. Before this tip, I used to close my PC and reopen it again and then, they would restart normally.
Is there another way to make those 2 PSP versions to open without having to use the Task Manager or shut the PC down?
I would be so grateful... Thanks to all of you!

Occasionally, I would minimize all the active windows on my computer until I would get to the desktop, and by then, that little window is often visible. Worth a try.

If there is a window open you could try "cascade windows" which will display all open windows. Just right-click on the task bar and select "cascade windows" from the menu. However if there is a background process that is not terminating you probably need to find that in Task Manager and close it. If that problem persists I would go to Control Panel - Programs and try to Repair PSP or reinstall it if the Repair option is not available.

In certain versions, this issue arises when you disable adverts. A quick solution to close it is by creating a new text file on your computer and inserting the following code:
For a basic closure method:
@echo off
Taskkill /im "Corel PaintShop Pro.exe"
You'll need to adjust the file name above to match your PSP version. (Corel PaintShop Pro.exe). To locate this, simply right-click on your PSP icon, then navigate to 'Properties'. You'll find the necessary information in the end of the 'Target' box. Save the file and rename it to "Close Psp.bat". Then, simply double-click it whenever PSP fails to open.
For a more advanced solution that automatically closes PSP upon exit:
@echo off
echo Starting PaintShop Pro, Please Wait...
start /wait taskkill /f /im "Corel PaintShop Pro.exe"
start /W "Paint Shop Fix" "C:\Program Files\Corel\Corel PaintShop Pro 2020 (64-bit)\Corel PaintShop Pro.exe"
start /wait taskkill /f /im "Corel PaintShop Pro.exe"
echo PaintShop Pro Closed Successfully!
pause
Again, adjust the file path as necessary, save it as "Start Psp.bat", and double-click to start PSP.
It will remain active until you close PSP, at which point it will automatically close itself and kill psp correctly.

Upon further consideration, the optimal solution would be:
@echo off
Taskkill /im "Corel PaintShop Pro.exe"
start "C:\Program Files\Corel\Corel PaintShop Pro 2020 (64-bit)\Corel PaintShop Pro.exe"
exit Adjust the paths accordingly and save the file as "Painshop Pro.cmd". Then just double click it to use PSP rather than the old icon.
Also you can modify its icon in its properties to the original PaintShop Pro icon, making it closely resemble the original way of opening the application.

Hi I recall at one time that where I had images open then chose to close the program I was prompted to save the images or simply close without saving, after which the program closed, doing it this way caused the program to hang in Task Manager.
However if I first closed all images then closed the program it did not hang in Task Manager allowing the program to run again.
Oh...I also recall part of the problem seemed to be associated in the types of edit applied to the images, seemed to happen after using the cropping.
