I've recently come from another Movie editing app, Serif Movie Plus X6... Many years now a dead app.
But of course VS is a completely new app to me, and its methodology is a new learning curve which I'm slowly getting to grips with.
There is one thing ATM I'm having a problem with, and am wondering if there might be any tutorials around that would help?
I want to have a black fade in to the start of a video, and a black fade out at the end?
Any help or addresses for a tutorial would be appreciated.
Thanks
Ax

Place a black Color Board at the start, adjust length, apply Crossfade Transition, now you have a black fade in, carry out same procedure at video end

You'll find the color boards up to the very top right of the preview screen, in Backgrounds which in turn is directly under Samples which is highlighted by default in blue.

A little more info Go to Preferences ( F6) Edit tab We can set the Image/colour duration and transition duration, in addition set the default transition type. I normally set that to FX Crossfade.
Whilst in the Preferences check out the other options. If in doubt ask..

Thanks folks, that's me sorted on that one.
I'm sure as I play with this new (For me) app I'll need to ask a question or two... Or maybe even more.
Thanks Ax

G'day again folks...
Right, with your help I'm making progress, and I've now gone from the Trial version to the paid for version, but what a load of Garbage also arrives with the Full install, but that's another story... :-(
So to my question. :-) I've made various minor changes to the UI to suite me, and obviously saved them. (Layout Settings Save to Custom 1). But, I don't like the very dark colour of the User Interface, and unlike in PSP, here I cannot find a UI setting that'll enable me to change the colour. Is this possible and if yes, how?
Thanks Ax

As an Aside I've been looking in to the reasons I ended up with a CVS full of junk after going from the Trial to a full paid for version.
Apparently, though I know not why, I ended up with an Ultimate [Expletive] version. (Gordon Bennett).
I never ever purchase ultimate versions of anything... I have no use for the junk supplied as Ultimates. (All well and good if that's what others want, but not my scene).
Don't suppose I can downgrade it?

The Ultimate version is created by installing the Bonus Features package, this install additional features to the program. ProDad, New Blue to name a few. We can install the program without that package by deselecting the Bonus Features. I am not really sure if these are the bits of junk you wish to remove.
Can you give more details of the junk you wish to remove, then we may be able to advise how to remove the junk.
How long ago did you purchase the program, if within 30 days you could get a refund under the 30 day money back offer, then purchase the Pro version. I think a bit extreme to go to that extent.
So again what junk are you referring to?

With regard to the UI color, sorry that can't be changed, but neither can Vegas Pro 21, Magix Movie Studio 2023, or Magix Movie Edit Pro. not sure about Adobe or CyberLink, many years since I had those 2installed You can ask for a refund, provided your request is within the necessary time frame, I think it's about 14 days from date of purchase, (I'm sure Trevor or Ken will correct me if I'm wrong) then you can purchase the Pro version, strange that the price required didn't ring alarm bells
Trevor beat me to it
EDIT
Just checked Vegas Pro 21 again and you can in fact change the UI color scheme

So again what junk are you referring to? I purchased it on the 14 Feb 2024 (Two days ago). The Trial version was I assume, just the bog standard Pro version; The junk I refer to is all the additional features extra to the basic Pro version, things that I'll never use, like the extra features you mention. I guess one possible option would be completely uninstall it, then re-install it from the downloaded installer I saved, then not allow it to install the other stuff. Although, once the install process started it did just seem to go away and do it without asking me anything. With regard to the answer by Robertoz: Great shame the UI colour is fixed. It's quite mad not to consider folks with sight difficulties who need different contrasts... And there's a lot of us old folks about these days. :-) Among other thing, I for example can't see the weedy little scrollbars used in CVS as there's not enough differentiation between the overall UI and the scroll bar shade. I don't think I'll go to the extreme of a refund, I don't care about the price difference, but I would like to get rid of the unwanted stuff. Anyway, I've got enough to do learning this new app, so I'd better stop moaning and get on with it... :-) Thanks for the info folks, appreciated. Ax

Interesting thoughts Ken. I've uninstalled the ProDAD stuff, but I can't see any indications in Programs and Features of NewBlue.
Anyway Thanks for those thoughts, I shall forget my moans and get on with the work and learning.
So a question please, I have a transition (Arrows) in the Time line and I want to move its position a bit, but this transition for some reason is locked in place... A circle with a slash like a road No Entry sign.
I have no idea how it became locked, but what do I do to unlock it.
Thanks Ax

Haven't heard that about transitions before. The only thing I can think of to try would be to make sure the transition is highlighted in the timeline and then deleted it. Then reinsert it from the transitions library where you want it to go.
As for New Blue, mine certainly appear there in Control Panel. But they other thing you could look at would be to go to C:\Program Files\NewBlue and look for the uninstallers (small u) sub-folder).

There is a sub folder which contains 6 uninstall exe files and three target-path xml files.
I'll have a closer look at that tomorrow. Thanks Ax

One last note on the transition lock problem.
After deletion, it doesn't matter what Transition I use, as soon as I put it in the Time line it becomes locked.
That's another thing to look in to tomorrow, and if I fathom something out I'll report back.
Here in the UK it's getting a bit late... so good night and thanks.
