Good day folks, I need some advice, please.
As I understand it, if I want/need to work on some .ico files in PSP, I need an additional Plugin.
Is that correct?
If so, where might I find said Plugin?
When/if I'm in possession of the Plugin, where would I put it to work?
Thanks Arturox

Thanks... Good thought, but already been there done that, the fat lady sang etc...
I have a file "ICOFormat.8bi" but have no idea what to do with it?
Is .8bi a filetype that works in PSP?

See if this helps you.
You could also use IrfanView which is a free program.

I don't make or edit icons. However, I downloaded the 64 bit version of ICOFormat.8bi and placed it in the EN subfolder of the Plugins sub-folder of PSP 2023. It is the only 8bi file on this computer. Just in case I also added this sub-folder to the File Locations in Preferences.
The only thing I have been able to find is that PSP 2023 can now Save As to the ICO format. I had been careful to check beforehand the range of formats PSP could Open or Save As and ICO was in neither. But now it is there in both Save As and Open. And looking at the originally large test photo I used but now saved with another name as an icon, it is of a size consistent with being indeed now an icon.

Thanks Kathy_9 While I'm aware of IrfanView I don't use it, I'm a PSP guy since 1996 ish. :-)
I do use XnView on another machine for some particular work, and that does .ico files... I've even been known to use MS-Paint to work on an .ico file.
Ken, thanks for your suggestions, which I have tried with my PSP 2022, unfortunately I cannot get it to work... Throwing up two error messages whatever I do.
As this is proving to be a pain... I'll take my job to the other machine and use XnView
Thanks for the suggestions folks.

I had a few minutes spare before off to do some (Proper) work, so had a play. :-)
As noted before PSP 2022 will not play, presenting the two aformentioned error messages...
However, I had a fiddle with PSP 9.01 (My favourite version) and after a few tweaks, lo-and-behold it will now Load and Save .ico files, even configuring the save to be "Standard ICO" rather than a png type.
Later, If I can remember what I fiddled with in PSP 9, I'll have a go at PSP 2022 and see what happens.

As mentioned, I first downloaded the 64 bit version (ICOFormat64.8bi) and that worked fine with my 64 bit PSP 2023. Just to be sure, I then downloaded and installed the 32 bit version, which is just ICOFormat.8bi and installed (copied) that into the plugins subfolder of PSP 2022 which of course came with a 32 bit/x86 version of PSP. And again it worked just fine both in Open and Save As...

Hi Ken, I decided to start from scratch with the ICOFormat.8bi So I re-downloaded the Zip file, extracted the Plugin and put it in Plugins, and off it went, doing the job okay without a moan.
I checked the file sizes of the two versions, the original failing one and the new downloaded, there was a difference in size, the new downloaded was larger than the old one I had been using for PSP 2022.
Checked the new download with the PSP 9 ICOFormat.8bi Plugin and and both were the same size.
Now I'm fixed... :-) Weird business, but that's computer... :-)
Thanks Ax
