Thanks Candive I will download and have a look in a short while. I was reading ddickerson47 post regarding text, managed to highlight using the solid colour clips, something I would have done instead of paint creator, just personal preference I guess.
Anyway I will go boot up the pc
Post Updated Hi
Yes that VSP opens ok for me although I did have to re-link to the first clip which then picked up the rest (smart re-link) had you opened the SP VSP you could have re-linked the files to those in the SP folder, then others opening the VSP would not need to relink.
The project contains 3 text images and one Painting Creator clip although a png.
Masks have been used although accessing the Blending mode caused the program to crash.
After first adding the Mask01 to the Blending Matte mode I was then able to access the mask from your VSP without the program crashing. I have to say in the past we have had some crash issues using Masks/ blending modes
So yes that works ok and gives a good highlight animation, quite clever to reuse the PaintingCreator~4.PNG rather than creating separate effects. That image of course has a transparent background which is needed.
I am still working out how you created the moving mask with transparency, my efforts has the transparency mixed up?

I completed a new project. This time I used a solid colour clip as suggested by ddickerson47 and Trevor Andrew rather than using Paint Creator like Gripps 2211. In the process I determined the bug in Smart Package and it pertains to Masks. When you create a mask, three files are created; png, ini and dat. When Smart Package creates the archive, it copies the png file but not the ini or dat files. Therefore when you open the project from the Smart Package, it doesn't work. Please note, after opening the zip file into a new directory, in VideoStudio you need to File/Relink into that directory. (I'm sure you already know this ![:P](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/tongue.png) ) Gatsby Highlighter with colour clip example

Candive Thanks for the new project Yes I can agree that Smart Packaging does not include the mask files .ini and dat. I did a workround where I created a project folder to hold the image Gatsby.jpg and the VSP file. Then set the Mask Creator save folder to target the same folder now all files are saved to one folder, a manual Smart Package if you like. I guess that avoids copying the lost files across.
I did spend some time trying to fix the Smart Packaging but to no avail. I generally work in a similar way where all my Video, Audio, and Image files are saved to the same folder before importing to the timelines, and of course set the working folder to be the same.

Hi Trevor Andrew Thanks for confirming that Smart Package forgot to include the mask ini and dat files. This week I'll reach out to Support and inform them of the bug. I guess the lesson learned from all this is when you create a Smart Package archive, test the package before sharing, moving it an external drive or cloud storage etc. Compared to other Video editors, I believe VideoStudio Smart Package is a simple yet effective archive solution. Other editors create some proprietary archive file which only the editor can open. If that program stopped working or the archive was on a an external hard drive and you connected it to a computer which didn't have the appropriate software, good luck getting access to the archived files! On the other hand, Smart Package just pools all the necessary assets into a single directory or zip file. Its very easy to get access to the underlying data. Another feature I liked about VideoStudio, but I am slowly moving away from, was that the directories where you stored your video content wasn't "polluted" with other files from your editing; be it temporary or proxy files or system generated files. Other Editors would dump these files where your videos resided. But as you mentioned in your post Trevor, you compile all your assets into a single folder before working on a project. My discussions with others concur with your approach. Once the video files are imported into the computer, sub folders are created for the project itself, audio, photos and other related assets. Essentially manually building a Smart Package with each project. Admittedly in the past I just let VideoStudio handle the location of all the superfulous data and files created by the program. If I wanted to consolidate the information I would just use Smart Package. Obviously we've discovered Smart Package isn't that smart! So moving forward, I may use your suggested methodology of taking the time to change the working directory to the appropriate project directory and save everything related to that project into that directory. Essentially manually creating a Smart Package. Trevor, thanks again for your experienced advice.

CandiveTaking the issue a little further I tested creating an Instant Project and FastFlick templates. Both of these options should work similar to Smart Packaging as they also create a separate folder containing all clips/masks etc used in the project. For Instant Project, that failed to create the template as the Category option was not available. This was reported to Corel / Alludo as a bug report (13th march 2023) I replied to the report on 31st Jan 2024 with comment -- no fix after ServicePatch1 (26.1.0.268) I was able to created a Fast Flick Template, again clips saved but no Ini or dat files. I tried Instant Projects again, this time the category was available, strange, the template was created but no masks. So these templates IP and FF appear to have the same issue as the Smart Packaging.

Trevor Andrew, I tested Instant Projects and FastFlick and can confirm that they did not work. I suspect they use the same subroutine as Smart Package so if you fix one, you fix all three. Interestingly I did not have a problem with Instant Project category. The Category options were available to me when I created the project. Also the first time I created a FastFlicks an error popup appeared indicating that files were missing. I did it again, but the second time I did not get the error popup. Still FastFlicks didn't work as expected. I then copied the ini and dat files from my project to the FastFlick's file and Voila! It worked! I'll include Instant Projects and Fast Flicks in my bug report to Support.
